The Parlour Room is OUr premier event space.

Whether you are planning an intimate gathering for friends, a sophisticated cocktail party for clients, an educational workshop or an elaborate soirée- The Parlour Room is an exceptional and convertible venue space.

Aesthetically, The Parlour Room boasts a modern-vintage industrial style reminiscent of gentleman's smoking rooms of times past. Velvet, leather and crystal are interspersed with concrete and brick to establish a refined but cozy environment. Soaring exposed ceilings are framed by original brick masonry, punctuated by walls of elegant black and gold wallpaper.


The Parlour Room reflects the sensibilities of a stylish well-designed home, not a traditional generic rental space. With an open-concept format and movable furnishings, The Parlour Room offers a flexibility for differing event needs.


WHAT IS UNIQUE ABOUT THE PARLOUR ROOM?

The Parlour Room is a destination in itself with high-end furnishings and an intimate ambiance. Little to no additional decor or rentals are required to achieve a perfect backdrop for your event. Very few rental spaces provide the peace-of-mind to just show up and enjoy yourself!

When is the parlour room available?

The Parlour Room is available weekdays after 5pm and all day Saturday and Sunday. It is not typically available M-F during the day because The Commoners use the space during that time, however, depending on the nature of your event, exceptions can be made. 

WHAT EVENTS DO WE HOST IN THE PARLOUR ROOM?

Because the room is fully furnished in expensive velvets and leathers, we are very particular about the events we host in this space. Only low-key, professional events are encouraged.

We love a good party just like anyone else so if you are planning to have an event where people want to let their hair down, have a few (or more!) drinks and celebrate with a bit more "joie du vie" your event would be better suited to our larger event space, The Hemingway Room.

What is the room capacity?

The room is 1800 sq ft. with a capacity of 100 people. We are able to accommodate more people if you wanted to also use our adjoining rooms.

THE PARLOUR ROOM IS VERSATILE AND FLEXIBLE IN ITS DESIGN TO HOST BOTH BUSINESS EVENTS, SUCH AS MEETINGS, WORKSHOPS AND NETWORKING, As WELL AS SPECIAL OCCASIONS SUCH AS low-key cocktail PARTIES.


Pricing

Every event is unique and we tailor each event package to suit your particular needs. You may require event planning, room set up, design details or you may be more of a DIYer! There are also some times of year that are busier than others and all of this factors into the end price.

The Parlour Room comes fully furnished and as such is our most exclusive room. If you are on a tighter budget let us suggest The Hemingway Room or The Commodore Room as a possible alternative.

We wish we could be more specific! The easiest thing to do is to contact us for a tour and will will provide a quote tailored to your particular requirements.


DO YOU INTEND TO HOST AN EVENT THAT WOULD ALIGN WELL WITH THE VISION OF THE COMMONS?

We are committed to supporting entrepreneurs, small businesses and non-profits in Calgary. We may be open to reducing our event costs or making an in-kind donation of our space with organizations who have a similar vision and philosophy. Please contact our event curator to explore this option further.

Services

All of our venue rentals include a venue coordinator who will answer your questions and walk you through the details such as contracts, expectations and procedures as well as an event attendant who will be onsite for the entirety of your affair.

Other services include, but are not limited to:

  • Event Planning including rentals, liaising with vendors such as caterers, musicians and bartenders and essentially bringing your vision to life. We work with a team of event planners who specialize in a myriad of event styles, so you are sure to get the expertise you require.
  • Event Styling which includes designing the decor and ambiance of the event space to match your theme and vision.
  • Graphic Design including invitations, posters, and fine stationery details such as place cards, signage and thank you cards.
  • Catering - we are delighted to offer full-service catering with a seasonal menu of gourmet breakfast, lunch, cocktail and dinner items. We take pride in every detail - you won't be disappointed!

Our space is a bit hidden away, so please see below for detailed directions and give yourself enough time to find us - we assure you it will be worth it!

The Directions

How to Find Us: The Parlour Room is one of the event spaces at The Commons which is in the Ramsay Design Centre, a low–rise brick building on the East side of 11 Street SE. The entrance to The Parlour Room is from the South parking lot (please note we have two parking lots – one to the North of the building and one to the South. Barre Body Studio is located at this end if you see Red Point Media you are in our North lot). These lots are not connected, however, if you find yourself in the North parking lot you can easily walk around the building to the South entrance.

Once you arrive, use the entrance marked “1210 20 Ave”. Follow the hallway and The Parlour Room is the second door on your right.

Parking

During the evenings and weekends we have complimentary parking in both our North and South parking lots. Daytime parking is a bit more limited in these lots, but there is free parking within the surrounding community. Download our parking map here.

Car2Go

Using Car2Go is a great option as you can park in permit-only areas as well as regular street parking.

By foot or bike

We are situated near many bike paths and the Elbow River. Store your bike at the bicycle-rack outside.

By Bus

There are approximately 5 bus stops within a 5 minute walking distance of The Commons.

By Train

The nearest C-Train station is Erlton/Stampede, which is approximately a 20 minute walk to and from The Commons.


 

THE LOCATION

The Commons is located in the community of Ramsay in the iconic Ramsay Design Centre, a pleasant walk from Calgary's historic Inglewood community. Originally built in 1919 by Westeel, it has subsequently been host to numerous other industrial and business operations, from a lighting warehouse to building ammunitions during WWII. Today it is the choice space for a selection of creative and stylish enterprises including: Avenue MagazineRedPoint Media and Barre Body Studio.
